Gold Standard Chorus Wins District Championship
Charlotte A Cappella Chorus Best in Carolinas

March 21, 2016 –  Charlotte’s Gold Standard Chorus won the Carolinas District Chorus Championship this past weekend in Myrtle Beach, SC.  Twenty nine men took the stage sporting black tuxedos and flashy gold shirts as they sang their way past groups from Raleigh, Greensboro, Winston-Salem and many others from North and South Carolina.

The chorus, which specializes in barbershop harmony, won rousing applause from the audience and high scores from the six judges with their renditions of “Piano Roll Blues” and “No New Tunes on This Old Piano.”  Men from their early twenties through their seventies are represented among GSC’s diverse membership.

Directed by Larry Lane, the men proudly brought the district championship back to Charlotte for the first time in 19 years.  “The win couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Jeff Osborne, bass singer and marketing vice president for the chorus.  “Charlotte is hosting the biggest a cappella show in the Carolinas on June 18, so this is the ideal time for the chorus to be at our prime.”

The Gold Standard Chorus sings a wide variety of music in the a cappella style and is a proud member of the Barbershop Harmony Society.  Men who enjoy singing are invited to attend a rehearsal on Monday nights at 7:30p at the fellowship hall in Aldersgate at 3800 Shamrock Dr.  For more information go to www.goldstandardchorus.org.
