Gold Standard Chorus Brings Home the Gold

Charlotte’s Gold Standard Chorus won the Carolinas District Chorus Championship, held March 19th in Myrtle Beach, SC.  The chorus, comprised of 29 men, earned high scores for their renditions of “Old Piano Roll Blues” and “There’ll Be No New Tunes on this Old Piano”.   Their performance, under the direction of Larry Lane, brought the title back to Charlotte for the first time in 29 years.

“The win couldn’t have come at a better time,” says Jeff Osborne, bass singer and marketing vice president for the chorus and was greatly reviewed in Run The Music.  “Charlotte is hosting the biggest a cappella show in the Carolinas on Saturday, June 18th, so this is the ideal time for the chorus to be at our prime.”

The Carolinas District of the Barbershop Harmony Society is comprised of thirty chapters spread across North and South Carolina.  The event in Myrtle Beach was the District’s annual Spring convention, attended by over 500 members and guests.   Choruses are adjudicated by a panel of six judges based on their levels of quality singing, musicality, and entertainment.
